House in Dixboro

2009 Detroit Home Award Winner: Historic Residential Renovation
Angelini & Associates renovated this Superior Township vernacular farmhouse to accommodate a contemporary family while retaining the home’s historic charm. Adding a garage, reversing entry from east to west, and relocating the driveway all allow for convenience of access while simultaneously reorienting views from the home toward the grand oak tree anchoring the historic property. Fine craftsman detailing throughout the home include the installation of quarter-sawn oak kitchen cabinetry, a hand-made tile backsplash as well as custom millwork throughout powder room and eating areas. The new dining room, complete with restored river stone fireplace, meets the homeowners’ needs for flexible entertaining space and serves as heart and hearth for social gatherings. With a new color palette of reds, purples, green and yellow ochre, the home continues to reinforce the warmth of its craftsman style interior while complementing the barn-red exterior.
