Home on Sycamore

2015 Detroit Home Award Design Winner
1st place- Addition Project, 2nd place- Small-space Remodel up to 1,000SF & Kitchen between 201-500SF

The owners of this small home in the Burns Park area of Ann Arbor value living simply in a small footprint with their two children. A small addition to this home added some necessary breathing space to enlarge the kitchen and dining areas toward the back yard. The new kitchen is detailed to be in keeping with the retro style preference of the owners and to harmonize with the original parts of the home to feel as if it was always there. The kitchen was relocated and expanded slightly within a small addition, keeping the kitchen separated from the dining and living spaces, but providing a built-in windowed nook for family meals and doing homework. The adjacent dining room was planned carefully to include storage closets and a desk, while also providing space to expand for dinner with family and friends. A cozy sleeping nook upstairs now provides an additional bed for a child when guests visit.
